Trading commenced today on the iShares S&P Global
100 exchange-traded fund (ETF). The Global 100 (ticker symbol:
IOO) is the first ETF to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange
(NYSE).
The new exchange-traded
fund (ETF) tracks the S&P Global 100 Index, which focuses
on companies whose performance is tied more to the global economy
than specific regional economies. The fund is the second global
ETF now available to investors.

The S&P Global 100 (not to be confused with
the iShares
S&P 100 that began trading on the Chicago Board Options
Exchange in late October 2000) is the 96th ETF to trade on United
States markets. Ninety-four of those ETFs trade on the American
Stock Exchange (AMEX), and
63 of them have been launched in the year 2000. Assets under management
in ETFs have more than tripled to $50 billion in the last three
years.
"With 76 of the S&P Global 100 companies
listed on the NYSE and representing a combined global market capitalization
exceeding $7 trillion, it is only natural the iShares S&P
Global 100 ETF trade on the NYSE," said NYSE Chairman and
CEO Richard Grasso.
Volume on the first day of trading was light, with
only 1,600 shares changing hands (compared to 3,300 for the StreetTracks
Dow Jones Global Titans and a whopping 65.8 million shares for
the Nasdaq 100 Cubes (QQQ), and 10.3 million for the SPDR S&P
500 fund (SPY)).
