The Institute for International Research is sponsoring the
2nd Annual Exchange-Traded Fund & Index Share Forum, which
will be held on Tuesday, September 26 at The Marriott Financial
Center in New York City.
Index Funds is pleased to announce that Managing Editor Jim
Wiandt will be on the scene with live, exclusive accounts of
the goings-on at the conference. Jim will be posting updates,
news, and interviews from the conference in New York. Additionally,
Jim will be covering an investor-focused seminar on exchange-traded
funds (ETFs) sponsored by Barclays Global Investors. This prelude
to the main conference will be held on Monday, September 25,
and features a presentation by iShares
Chairman Nathan Most, inventor of ETFs.
The second installment of the ETF and Index Share Forum has
been a highly-anticipated event with the surging global popularity
of ETFs, which combine the cost-efficiency of mutual funds with
the flexibility of intraday trading. According to Wiesenberger,
as of September 15, 2000 total investment in the 67 ETFs stood
at $47.48 billion.
Some of the topics to be discussed at the conference include:
-
The SEC review process for approving new ETFs
-
A complete history of ETFs and their rise
to stardom in the investing community
-
The advantages of ETFs for institutional traders,
investment managers, and individual investors
Check our site next week for news stories by Jim Wiandt and exclusive
interviews with Gus Fleites, Director of ETFs at State
Street Global Advisors, and Lee Kranefuss, CEO of U.S. Individual
Investor Business at Barclays
Global Investors.
Although Jim is quite content to remain in relative obscurity
at his desk crunching data and exposing the pitfalls of active
investing with razor-sharp commentary and articles, he's dusted
off the trench coat and fedora in preparation for getting back
to his roots as an investigative reporter. Stay tuned for his
notes from the field.
